Hello! Please why did you delete the three pictures by Philippe Legendre-Kvater since he does agree?? What is the problem with these pictures??? --Gaetan Poix 08:45, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Explanation ?[edit]

I understand that you have made it a hobby to harass me ... but how exactly was the fair use rationale for the protest picture you deleted not sufficient. I provided all of the necessary requirements for inclusion. (author, source, link, rationale, wording of law used, etc) ? It isn't enough to just delete it ... you also need rationale for such restrictions on my freedom as a user. Redthoreau 15:39, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Spanish Civil War Propaganda Deletion?[edit]

Excuse me, I need this picture for an article on Civil War on wikipedia. I'm a sysop there and I'm acquainted with licenses. Why do this image should be deleted? Give me a reason. Thank you. --Gustavo86 03:52, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Check this out before making a decision. The image was uploaded from flickr as it's already explained with a compatible license to be used on commons. Besides that, it is an historical document dating back to 1936, which gives the image an age of almost 72 years old. Why is it a copyfraud? --Gustavo86 04:03, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Spanish law protects this image for 90 years from the author's death. Furthermore the Creative Commons license is just that, copyfraud. I could scan the New York times and upload it to Flickr and claim Creative Commons, but it would be false. Capiche? -Nard 15:31, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The image was done by John Heartfield, a notable German artist these days, who died in 1968. This is no voodoo by the way, it's mentioned on the bottom line. Obviously you are not familiar with licensing. --Polarlys 12:19, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Problems?[edit]

Hi, N! I have one problem: what problems with my pictures? For copies I used objects of my collection. Sergr Lachinov PS Are you marine officer? My grandfather was the naval officer too... God with us User:Serge Lachinov (ruwiki) - for answer it is better User:Alexej M.

  • I'm enlisted :) As for the image I tagged, a 1934 image from France would still be under copyright until 70 years after the author died. -Nard 07:41, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Dear friend! This book my grand-uncle Leff Schultz made, he was Russian artist emigrant, and I am legal owner of his creative heritage. I made this copy from book in my permission. Deleting animated flags[edit]

Hello, you 've added information to the userpage of my bot about deletions. Because this page redirects to my talkpage, I coudn't see that directly. Its better to add such information on User_talk:Augiasstallputzer

To the licenceproblem: (e.g.: Image:Animated-Flag-Mexico.gif )

When I uploaded the images, I 've added information about the source. They came from http://ideaspot.net/world/index.html (and the suppages of that site) on that page, the author writes:

"Feel free to use any of these graphics as you would like."

Why do you think, that this isn't a public-domain-licence ? Augiasstallputzer 17:23, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Actually it could be PD. -Nard 07:44, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Are you SURE this is in the public domain? I mistakenly uploaded it before researching copyright law. Since then I've discovered that as a previously unpublished work by an unknown creator, it will not enter the public domain until 1/1/2009, the end of the year 120 years after it was created. Davidwr2 04:30, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

After I look in the sources it looks absolutly ok for me. I can't see a reason for speedy deletion if I read "The pictures may be used freely, but the photographer (company or name) must be credited." on a gov-page. Is this ok for you? --Kolossos 15:13, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Robert Baker Aitken photo MUST be deleted[edit]

Per your vote at Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Robert Baker Aitken 2.JPG. This photograph cannot be kept here on Wikimedia Commons, as Tom Aitken had not realized he did not own the copyright when he released it to me this morning. He handles most of his father's estate, and things get pretty hectic for him. He was kind enough to have released six others of his father that have no copyright issues whatsoever. This one does, however, and must be deleted. (Mind meal 05:42, 10 March 2008 (UTC))Reply[reply]

Hey N. I want to point something out to you. (This is not a criticism of you. Everyone's guilty of it.) When you nominated Image:WelcometoIsraHELL.gif for deletion, the page wasn't tagged because it was protected due to edit-warring. Maybe you didn't even notice the protection, but in the future do you think you can maybe use {{Editprotected}} to ask a admin to do it? Or maybe mention the protection in the DR? Since this was a controversial image, I think a lot of people would have wanted to comment on the DR. There was a discussion going on on the talk page. I don't think anyone knew (except us DR regulars). It's not really your fault, the admin shouldn't have closed it like that without at least tagging the page first. Anyway, I don't want to make an issue over it, but just for future reference. Thanks, man. - Rocket000 20:13, 15 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • I use a script to nominate things for deletion and I usually review the tabs before closing them but I guess I missed that one. I'll try to keep an eye out for that. -Nard 21:01, 15 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Yeah, I wish someone make the Quick Delete script throw a pop-up or something to inform users when the page can't be tagged. It seems to be a common problem. Anyway, thanks again. Cheers, - Rocket000 23:56, 15 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Help if you can please[edit]

You tagged File:The New Zealand Story screenshot.png for deletion as it did not include the name of the original author. I found this picture at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Zealand_Story and I want to use it (and a dozen others) on http://simple.wikipedia.org/The_New_Zealand_Story This should be straight forward use the same file name but some of the files (some are fine) on en.wikipedia are not appearing when I enter their tags on simple.wikipedia and I couldnt find any author info or anything. If you might help me (or send me to someone who can) an example of the problem is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTE/ I can click the logo there and get the filename and put it on simple.wikipedia but nothing appears (red writing instead of picture). Any way to transfer with info intact? Not all are doing this problem but I was going to just upload all to commons and use but looks like help is needed. Any advice appreciated. film copyright[edit]

Hi, I noticed you responded to my query re copyright on a 1944 film. While Carol Green would have a copyright if he made the film now, I am not sure he had any copyright at the time, or if so for what period. The best I can say about information I have found regarding complex cases is that it is confusing. The changes in law may mean that the copyright expired, the copyright never expired, the copyright expired but was renewed by legal changes, producers etc have new rights they never had 50 years ago. I have seen claims that films of similar dates are now ex-copyright. This may be true, or not. It may hinge on whether the US copyright expired, or was renewed, thereby maintaining continuity of copyright which would otherwise have expired in the UK. Great fun for lawyers, but do you happen to know the answers? Sandpiper 21:50, 23 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • It doesn't matter if the US copyright is expired. It is considered a British film for the purposes of Commons copyright, and it is still copyrighted there. The English Wikipedia allows uploads of items that are public domain in the US only. I suggest an upload there. -Nard 03:30, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Well the question of british copyright is precisely what I am attempting to establish. I have not found anything definitive stating whether it is, or is not, copyright. It appears that the english copyright would have lapsed. I have not seen a decent explanation of whether it would have been retored. I have seen a definite statement that some copyrights were not restored. This is precisely what I am attempting to find a knowledgeable person to explain. I have emailed the public addresses of a couple of copyright protection organisations, but neither has replied. Perhaps they don't know either. Sandpiper 22:22, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Country of origin[edit]

Hi. I've seen you make the argument on a few IfDs that the image must be public domain both in country of origin and in the U.S. I'm wondering what policy states that something must be public domain in the original country and not just in the U.S. or wherever servers are located. gren 08:18, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • I actually do not advocate this position. I usually qualify such statements with "sadly". I actually believe such images should be allowed if PD in country of origin only. If PD in the US only they should not be allowed. -Nard 23:54, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image Tagging Image:Rome-Seleucia-Parthia_200ad.jpg[edit]

Hi N. Please go ahead and delete the map (Image:Rome-Seleucia-Parthia_200ad.jpg). I don't know how to delete an image (or rename, sometimes it won't let me), so I withdrew the license and added an explanation on the image's main page. In short, it was uploaded with an incorrect name, but I was unable to rename or move it. I had a new & improved version, which was already uploaded with the correct name (Image:Rome-Seleucia-Parthia_200bc.jpg).

For future reference, how can I delete or rename images I upload? Is there any way I can get Admin privileges only over images I upload, in case I need to rename, move images, etc? Thank you in advance, Thomas Lessman 17:46, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I am sure that you are knowing better commons rules and so .... Wikipedia banned editor is trying to delete (fast deleting) picture of this document because of "copyright violation". It's always the "correct version" in a dispute :P Actually in this case it looks like you did protect the right version, Meta humor aside. Admin[edit]

Nard, would you like to be an admin here? You definitely have the knowledge and ability - I'd be happy to nominate you. Kelly (talk) 16:36, 28 June 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You may want to see this... Majorly talk 16:42, 28 June 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks but I'm fine as a contributor. I've had two failed admin requests on en.wiki and one here. People think I'm too trigger-happy and too aggressive (because I refuse to be nice to vandals). I wouldn't be opposed to someone helping me fix what's wrong before another crack at it though, if you wanna coach me. -Nard 16:55, 28 June 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sounds good to me. I'll keep your page on my watchlist, please drop me a line if you ever want a second opinion. I know copyright pretty well, but I know what it's like to get impetuous once in a while - I've been chided more than once. I still think you're a great asset here. Semper Fortis - it looks like you have yet not begun to fight. :) Kelly (talk) 17:01, 28 June 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

14th Annual Fil-Am Friendship Celebration[edit]

Jealous?  ;) Surprisingly she was pretty easy to talk to. Went back the next day and she recognized me. Then I got her number...No I didn't.  :( BrokenSphere 04:20, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • heheh Great photographies there man :) -Nard 10:21, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dear N,
Thank you very much for informing me about the image. I think you are right. It should be deleted under the circumstances it was uploaded. Unfortunately it was not I who uploaded it, I got Producer (usurp) recently. My original name is Nasib Bitar. So if you do not mind I am going to erase the notification from my talk page. Many thanks.--Producer (talk) 10:54, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image:Robben Sneijder.jpg[edit]

Regarding your deletion tag on Image:Robben Sneijder.jpg. It clearly specifies that it is a self-made image. I live in Switzerland and I went to a public training of the Netherlands where I took the image. In fact I took a bunch of images, see: User:Jacoplane/gallery#Football. Cheers, Jacoplane (talk) 00:53, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Er, nevermind... I see what happened there, I actually forgot to add the copyright license template when I uploaded the image. Sorry for my mistake. I've added it now and I'll leave it to you to remove the deletion notice. Jacoplane (talk) 00:56, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your deletion tags[edit]

Greetings, N. I see about four of my uploads tagged by you for deletion. Luckily I signed into the commons in time to comment (none of your tags made perfect sense to me, but you're welcome to reply). Susanlesch (talk) 06:42, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello again. I've replied twice to these. Would you mind following through on them? They don't belong in deletions when a Flickr license changed if the original license was verified (which it was). -Susanlesch (talk) 18:17, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
An administrator will close them! Why not ask one to close the discussions? -Nard 23:25, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Excuse me--You opened them. Please don't ask me to do the clean up for you. I don't plan to revist those files. Thank you for your interest. Susanlesch (talk) 03:10, 5 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Tags for new users[edit]

Hi - thanks for the work on tagging regarding images. When you place a tag on a new page can you place a "Welcome" template too please. It is one of the better multi lingual templates we have and may help people find their way around a bit more. Thanks & regards --Herby talk thyme 12:37, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Copy-vio[edit]

Hola N. Lamento que hayas dicho eso. No es que quiera subir todas esas imágenes sin copyright, es que en ese instante (y también aun ahora) no manejo mucho los conceptos de copyright. Espero que hayas entendido. Albomaster (talk) 22:50, 5 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No copyvio[edit]

Why on earth do you recommend [:Image:Eva - Johan Limpers.jpg] for speedy deletion? There is no case of copyright violation, I've got permission from the photographer. Be patient and wait for the OTRS confirmation of permission. Ronn (talk) 10:33, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

second time :)[edit]

That is the second time you helped by putting a license on one of my images, thank you very much for that. I have no idea the reason that I like to put the licence in the info template (probably because it says "Permission"). The last time, I woke up and it had been handled already. That is very nice. -- carol (talk) 11:56, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image sources[edit]

Hi, N. I've fixed the source of Image:Vera Holtz.jpg, but I don't know what the problem is with Image:Roberto Justus.jpg. Are you sure you meant to tag it? Best regards, --Abu badali (talk) 17:46, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Magazine Covers[edit]

Hi, N. As far as I know, the covers of magazines or books are allowed in Wikipedia. With this thougth, I uploaded the covers of the Watchtower and Awake. Why were they deleted?--Vasileios78 (talk) 07:25, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Mother Teresa[edit]

Thank you Nard the Bard for the notification. Sorry I am late to make clear the permission about this file, but I have been a little busy. I will try to update information about getting in touch with the source. --AlbeiroR24 (talk) 13:54, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

About this image, you probably realized that I myself appointed the mistake of its uploading and claimed its deletion.--Olimor (talk) 13:50, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Very well. If you've used the OTRS procedure they will fill it in. -Nard the Bard 21:41, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello Nard. You tagged this image with {{free screenshot|{{MPL}}}}. The image also shows the Firefox logo and Windows XP icons. Should they be edited out, or their small sizes bear no copyright violations? Thanks --Kimse (talk) 23:50, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Regarding Image:JeepLibertyKJ_OriginalCBAntennaInstallation_FinishedSwivelMountClose.jpg, an email with copy of a written permission has been sent to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). Please allow OTRS to tag the image and do not delete. Unixxx (talk) 19:22, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • OTRS pending since June 20. If the information is not filled in soon the file will be deleted. -Nard the Bard 21:41, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • The permission was sent to OTRS a number of days ago. I can forward a copy to you if necessary. Unixxx (talk) 21:37, 16 July 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image:Cheexecuted.jpg[edit]

This image has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Cheexecuted.jpg. You may not have been the original uploader having only been the one who moved it to commons so it didn't seem to be proper to template so I am notifying you this way . Thanks.--Sandahl (talk) 19:22, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Nard the Bard, you left me a message because i uploaded the image here-before on commons. The source of the image is the english Wikipédia ([6]) where the uploader is User:Mrprogrammer8 which has the same name than the uploader on Flickr ([7]). I know this does not proove anything but maybee you should try to contact him. Tieum512 (talk) 09:51, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Derivative works[edit]

Please help me understand what the change in Image:LOVE Park fountain.jpg was about. My impression is that this work, which was the poster's own work, would be a free image, except for the fact that it appears to be a derivative work, i.e. a photo of someone else's copyrighted sculpture. Apparently you disagree, but you marked it for deletion, without stating a rationale. Under what grounds are you requesting deletion? --rogerd (talk) 00:36, 2 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Firstly excuse me for my poor english. Concerning this picture, I've now put the link to name his author (who is Tennen-Gas). I've originally found this picture on the english wikipedia, in this page : [8] where there is a gallery of 6 pictures of Lancia S4, all made by Tennen-Gas. I hope I've done all my best to make this picture good for Commons. Merci cobra bubbles (talk) 10:14, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

For your prompt response (with link!) on Undeletion - I do not subscribe to commons list, and had not known of the mass loss. KillerChihuahua (talk) 07:34, 10 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for your query re licensing. The reason I did not put in the licence is that I dont know what the licence should be. I have asked for it to be clarified at commons licensing queries, and once it is resolved, I will then append a licence tag. Sincerely Andrew massyn (talk)

RW: Please do not overwrite images[edit]

Oh, sorry, I don't knew it.

I'm going to do it correctly now.

Hi, I deleted this as the wikipedia logo is not free use. The SVG version is fine as it uses W rather than the wikiglobe. -mattbuck (Talk) 22:23, 12 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re sin escudo, I apparently don;t have anything on this pc which can save PNG files, so you'll have to find someone else. -mattbuck (Talk) 23:00, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Must admit I'm not quite sure why you reverted the speedy tag, but I've now nommed this image for deletion. Feel free to contribute to the discussion: Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Gossip Girl title card.jpg. Regards, AllynJ (talk) 04:30, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Never mind, withdrawn the request; misread the tag. Sorry for the inconvenience! But, if you don't mind me saying, it would have been a lot easier had you let me know what my mistake was. :) Regards, AllynJ (talk) 04:44, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Renewed copyright[edit]

Hi, do you know if that copyright reneweal checker you showed me on a deletion request page covers stuff found here? http://digitallibrary.amnh.org/dspace/ Like scientific papers and stuff. FunkMonk (talk) 15:32, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • They should. You can also check [9] for periodicals. You should also note that papers can be reprinted in books that can then be registered for copyright. As long as the work was reprinted somewhere which was then registered, the copyright will continue (so let's say an author publishes a paper in a journal which then falls into the public domain. If he reprints his paper in a book, which is then properly registered, the paper is still copyrighted, even though the magazine it was printed in is otherwise PD. Of course the copyright protection for that paper will still only last the original term, so in the end the reverse can happen [the paper falls into the public domain even if the rest of the book is still copyrighted]). -Nard the Bard 18:38, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Ok, so if I for example want to upload images from here[10], and I don't know if they were republished later, should I then upload it? FunkMonk (talk) 18:46, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
      • A quick search shows that magazine was not renewed, and no copyright registrations at all in the name of the author "Brown, Barnum". You're probably ok. It'd be good to mention neither the magazine nor the author renewed the copyright. -Nard the Bard 19:04, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
