DUDE COME ON!!![edit]
The halo3: recon logo, having it on wikipedia isn't violating any copyright notices as I have even asked Bungie if I could put it on wikipedia and I got a yes ¬¬ now ok I may have listed it wrong (new to wikipedia editing) so please remove the speedy deletion. ¬¬
Hi Nard the Bard, I wonder why you tagged this image as it carried a {{PD-ineligible}} template. This image is obviously a derived work on base of a painting by Joseph Wolf 1820-1899 which is in the PD due to its age. The derivation itself does not hit the threshold of originality such that the use of {{PD-ineligible}} is justified. I am not the uploader of that image — I just got aware of that edit and I am inclined to revert it. --AFBorchert (talk) 06:35, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry I didnt realize it was based on an old painting. Thanks for pointing it out. -Nard the Bard 21:08, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Hi Nard. With all due respect, I got this image from a foreign Forum which uploaded the original image. Now, so that I would not violate copyright laws, I did take a photo by myself of the image, developed it into physical 4R picture, using photo paper. Then I scanned it to the PC. I leave the legal discretion to you, on the matter, if this should be deleted or not. Cheers.--Judgefloro (talk) 08:36, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

This user has been blocked on English Wikipedia for this very behaviour. The user claims that Image:OSS seal.jpg and Image:OSS logo.jpg are owned by "The OSS Society". I called the United States Patent and Trademark Office and confirmed with them that those images are trademark of the United States Government.
I also took the liberty of calling "The OSS Society" and spoke with a Mr. Pinck, who is in charge of trademarks for that orginization, and he said that they do not own the images, they use them with permission.
Finally, the IP being used is registered to "TD International" in Washington, DC. I also contacted them and informed them of the vandalism going on via their IP address. The person I spoke to was none too happy to hear about it.
Oh, and there is also a checkuser for a registered user and this IP for the vandalism of these images, along with page protection. I suggest the same happen here. Take Care...NeutralHomer T:C 21:12, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

"you cannot end-run around it with another tag." -- well sorry but yes, I can. This image does not have an author, it is a recent work, so it must be properly documented; and as any other image, if it is undocumented, it must have a nsd tag. A deletion request where people vote not to answer mandatory questions is completely irrelevant. Rama (talk) 20:51, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Outside project scope, potential copyvio -Nard the Bard 23:24, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Hi.
This is not a copyvio because I take the original foto miself with a tradicional camera in 2002.
The outscope image is because I take a digital photo to the foto with my digital camera , and this camera is not so good. This was the second intent to get a better quality picture.I tried to improve the background with a paint edition program.
Thanks for your time--Juan 15:33, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Argentina stamps[edit]
I noted your comments on Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Estampillas-Argentina-Encotel.jpg but think this needs further discussion. Because most stamp designers can be identified from some of the specialised stamp catalogues, I doubt the {{PD-AR-Anonymous}} template is proper to use for Argentina stamps at all, irrespective of whether 50 or 70 years is the most appropriate time frame. If stamps were truly anonymously designed then 50-years would be a proper time period but someone did design them and they can usually be identified, even if it takes some extra effort. This particular image has stamps that are less than even 50 years old, though I need to verify how new they are but one is from 1963 (row 2, stamp 4, left of tweesers). This Argentina stamp is obviously not PD by any stretch of the imagination. Cheers Ww2censor (talk) 01:53, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Your comment on Commons:Undeletion requests/Current requests[edit]
I noticed you made this comment on Commons:Undeletion requests/Current requests. I'd just like to clarify that the PD-Art policy is not an official resolution by the Wikimedia Foundation, but rather a local community decision that was based on the general opinions of at least two WMF employees, and that it was not (in my personal opinion) been thoroughly thought through. Please don't make the mistake of thinking we have the support of WMF on this, because as far as I can interpret it, they are not willing to make any sort of position on this matter (I can search for the relevant foundation-l threads if you wish more information about this). Overreactions[edit]
Hello there. I've been watching the deletion requests of the Anti Israel flags and now the Anti Poland flag. I agree if people doubt the images being within the scope of Wikipedia projects. This is no problem to me. I'm having difficulties seeing the necessity of this trend on Wikipedia. What MUST NOT be an argument is racism. Regarding a crossed out Israel flag as anti semitism is naïve and over-sensitive. This is an aspect of satire and everyday journalism, do you want censorship on most of the world's press? A crossed out Israel flag is against the way the state, founded in the midst of the 20th century when the anti semitic wave was already cooling down, is being run. Nothing against Jews. And I for myself would find a crossed out German flag funny, for I regard the German politicians as dull elitist bastards produly wearing blinders... does that make me racist? No. I still like some regions here, I'm even proud half-Frisian.
The reason I am writing to you is:
- I criticize your seriosity.
- I am really angry about the way this whole thing is developing on Commons. And you kindled that unreflected behaviour with your activity, least starting that deletion request with the flag of Poland and showing major activity on the first Anti Israel debate.
And to maybe solve this without the additional bad feelings I have when strolling around in one of these strange deletion requests, I write you. And maybe for the sake of getting rid of images in bad quality which nobody needs - without these arguments.
Please take a while, reconsider your arguments on deletion reqeusts and if you like, you may answer on this. • Lirion (Λιριων, Лирион, ليريون) wtf? • 01:00, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. I'm not the one who said anything about the Jews. I said the files were making a bad POINT. Please re-read the nominations and direct the above comments at the person they deserve to go to, not me. -Nard the Bard 02:06, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Not-PD-US-URAA[edit]
Hi Nard. Thanks for the answer in Commons:Deletion requests/Image:KingswayHaifa.JPG, but I didn't really understood it, and since it's not very relevant to that image, I'll ask you here - lets say I want to upload a photograph that had been taken and published in 1950 in Israel. It's in the public domain in Israel according to {{PD-Israel}}, but it's copyrights had been restored in the US, since it wasn't PD in 1996. Can I upload it with both {{PD-Israel}} and {{Not-PD-US-URAA}}, or it can't be uploaded to commons? Alonr (talk) 17:06, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Censorship[edit]
Hey,
I know about that “Commons is not censored” thing, and I really don't have a problem with most of the nude images everywhere right here. But I really don't get the point to keep such images like Image:Can you lick it ! (Klashorst).jpg. I mean, serious, did you read the description of that image? “Woman rubbing ice-cream on her shaved genitalia.” If someone wants to see that, he can go to Youporn or XNXX, but Wikimedia? Come on... --DerAndre (talk) 12:33, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

This was made in 1994, ("Project Duration: 5/1/94 - 9/16/94" according to this page). Teofilo (talk) 16:26, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- These appear to be replicas of much older public domain statues. I'd argue there's nothing newly creative about them, and thus are PD per L Batlin and son v. Snyder[1]. If they are copyrightable though they are definitely copyrighted. Anything after 1989 is. -Nard the Bard 19:47, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

NYWTS photos[edit]
Thanks for the note. I was aware of that already, but it is always good to make sure people do know that. I guess we've both read this, and know that the important bits are points 3 and 4. Point 3 being "NYWT&S staff photographs are in the public domain per the instrument of gift. These photos can be recognized by such stamps as "World-Telegram photo" or "World-Telegram photo by Ed Palumbo."" The Muhammad Ali one, for example, says here: "No copyright restriction known. Staff photographer reproduction rights transferred to Library of Congress through Instrument of Gift." That seems pretty clear, even though there is no hi-res picture directly linked. I never got round to creating a template like the one seen at Template:PD-USNWR. Would you have time to do that? Carcharoth (Commons) (talk) 19:56, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Image check request[edit]
Copying the request over here from the VP: "Is there a place here to ask for image checks? en:List of Nobel laureates in Chemistry is being reviewed at en:Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Nobel laureates in Chemistry, and I tried to review the images, but got bogged down. I asked at en:Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, but was told that they were "Commons" images. Anyone here able to help?"
- Thanks for the offer to help with this. I'm going to drop a note back at the en-wikipedia review page. Do you have an account there? If you really feel up to it, there were some pictures removed from an earlier version of the page, some of which might actually only need a bit more paperwork, though some might need to go. If some would be OK on Wikipedia but not here, please let me know. One thing I wanted to ask is whether there is anyway to leave a note on each picture as it is reviewed, as one of the things that really annoys me about image reviews in general is that if someone thinks an image is OK, there is rarely any incentive to leave a note saying that (to save time for the next person looking at the image). Are there ways to do that? Carcharoth (Commons) (talk) 20:02, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- The review is in progress. I guess you're right, the ones that seem ok rarely get tagged as such. Yes, a few would be better on Wikipedia than here. If you want I can compile a better list than the one I've got now, which is just the bad ones. My en.wiki name is the same as this name, but I am usually over here if you want to talk to me :) Cheers. -Nard the Bard 20:08, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. No time to say more, but will check back in a few days. Re: marking images as OK to save time for others, image patrolling would be great if trusted people could be identified and a backlog could be avoided. Is there such a thing? Carcharoth (Commons) (talk) 23:06, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
