Deletions procedure[edit]
I recently added Image:Grand Prix of Cleveland.svg to Deletion requests of October 27, 2008. However, the thing is not on the 10/27/2008 Deletion requests page. What happened? Yurte (talk) 03:10, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Video without sound[edit]
Would you be able to edit the sound out of a video for me? I can't install any software on the computer I'm using at the moment.
The video is one of a tui and a house sparrow bathing in/drinking from a bird bath, though it has a radio on in the background and some talking that is probably best removed. It can be found here. You can download it using something like vixy.net or mediaconverter.org, then convert to .ogg using e.g. http://mux.am/ and remove the audio at whatever point is convenient. If you want I can send you the video or convert it to ogg; it's just getting the software that's slightly problematic at the moment. You could upload it yourself or email it to me to upload - it will be OTRS pending with something like CC-BY-SA (I think the uploader will agree to anything really, it was just a test upload). If it's too much trouble I should be able to install the software on another computer at some point. Richard001 (talk) 09:53, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Note[edit]
Regarding the Rihanna image, where does the policy say that it's not eligible to put a no permission/source and/or copyright tag when their is a deletion request going on? --Kanonkas(talk) 13:12, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- It's not in the policy per se (although there is language if a speedy is declined to take it to deletion review). But I disagree strongly the file is missing permission. So I think DR is the best place to resolve it. -Nard the Bard 16:25, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Colombian Image Copyright Issues[edit]
Hi. I am looking for someone who can work out the tag request I posted, leaving no doubt that the image is free and you could use it in a mug and sell it for millions. For that purpose I would need all of your patience and care in going through the law I quote, and reword the text I wrote so such doubts are shear firewalled against. The law (chapter III) stipulates that the author ceases to have any right at all on the image, under the conditions I tried to describe . Thank you. Fefogomez (talk) 05:18, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- You're wrong. It's a fair use law, not a public domain law. Please take this back to Commons talk:Licensing. -Nard the Bard 05:20, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- Tell me why you think I am wrong. It only covers portrays not music, not video or the like. Fefogomez (talk) 05:22, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
-Nard the Bard 05:25, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- Tell me why you think I am wrong. It only covers portrays not music, not video or the like. Fefogomez (talk) 05:22, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- Ok. Ya veo cual es tu punto. Puedes borrar esta imagen tambien entonces. Image:Ernesto Samper 1.jpg Fefogomez (talk) 05:32, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough. But what if it had been the uploader's own work? "For artworks, even if permanently installed in public places, the U.S. copyright law has no similar exception ...". That seems pretty drastic. I want to be sure I understand it (1923, renewals, blah, blah). So what about Hermon Atkins MacNeil? Image:HAM1.jpg is ok, it's 1921. Image:The Sun Vow 01.jpg is ok, 1899. But Image:Pony-express-statue.jpg is "published" c.1940. Is that ok, and if so, why? Angus McLellan (Talk) 00:33, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- We're actually working on a policy page addressing this. You can view it at Template talk:PD-US-statue/proposal. -Nard the Bard 00:37, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, let me add my tuppenceworth. "If the Smithsonian does mention a copyright from before 1950 ...". Almost as clear as mud. What would this look like? For MacNeil's Pony Express, the SIRIS page says it is signed, but no mention of the c-word. We ideally want links to SIRIS showing examples of copyright and not-copyright. Thanks, Angus McLellan (Talk) 17:22, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed. But in this case it's fairly obvious, there is no magic c-word next to the author's name. -Nard the Bard 18:35, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- This seems far too simple, but I'm not going to complain about that. Cheers, Angus McLellan (Talk) 22:09, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

This image is neither part of an audiovisual work (movie, tape) nor broadcast work nor a computer program, so how should PD-Venezuela apply? After all 60 years after the authors death (other option of PD-Venezuela) is in 2015, which AFAIK was not yet. -- Cecil (talk) 17:03, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello man.[edit]
Maybe you remember me from some images whose copyright was at doubt. Refarding this, the socond part of PD-Col says:
The copyright of this work of art or literature registered in Colombia has expired, since copyright held by legal entities or the government expires thirty years after publication in the case of literary or scientific works, and thirty years after the work was performed, broadcast, or recorded ("fixed") in the case of audiovisual works. (Law 23 of 1982, Article 187 and its supportive law; Law 23 of 1982, Article 11).
In my opinion a "lefgal entity" would be a library or a newspapaer or in general any business whcih has a license to perform in a jurisdiction. However I would like to know if you concur on that opinion or you find fault with it. Thx Fefogomez (talk) 04:18, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

The decision for a consensus in which you took part last August is being disputed on the Annie Chapman talk page and within the archive space of the original decision here. The user cites recent changes to UK copyright law, recent changes in WP policies, and recent changes to the licensing template, (none of which are my forte) as being reasons why the decision was wrong.. I would like to defer to those with more knowledge on the subjects the user brings up so I have left this note on the talk page of those involved and you are invited to participate. Thank you,

Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:08, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Ayuda[edit]
Hola!
-Nard the Bard 02:17, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- Gracias por tu pronta respuesta. Desde luego es en la Wikpedia en español en Usuario Discusión:SexySharon#Dudas sobre imágenes. Etihad HQ image[edit]
Would you mind looking at this? Commons:Village_pump#UAE_image_Commons_eligibility - Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 23:47, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your notice regarding permissions on the image named above. I believe that the issues you raised deserve a more in-depth discussion by the community than allowed for in the speedy deletion process. So I removed your tag from the file page and initiated a deletion discussion at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Charles F Berg Buidling facade detail 3 - Portland Oregon.jpg. I also included on the disscussion page a fuller statement of why I think there are more complex issues at play on this one than simply whether the sculptor has granted permission or not. I am not dedicated to protecting this image at all costs — I really don't consider it my own picture since all I did was copy it over from en as a housekeeping thing — I just want to hear what more Commonsfolk have to say about the issues I raised. Cheers! —Werewombat (talk) 05:29, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Please don’t simply remove my templates[edit]
Hi Nard!
There are two possibilities:
a) Don’t touch the template but write something beneath them for the judging administrator. b) Open up a request for deletion.
But please don’t simply remove them. And yes: We had it a dozen times before: Processing a photo manually or with your favorite image manipulation software does not result in a free image. Regards, --Polarlys (talk) 13:23, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- I am entitled to remove templates I disagree with, especially if I do not believe the image is a violation. I can and will continue to do so. -Nard the Bard 01:57, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
Ubisoft screenshost[edit]
Hi, as you know pictures File:Settlers V - loadovaci obrazovka s Dariem.jpg and File:Settlers_V_loading_with_Ari.png are screenshots from Ubisoft´s game where was possible to use it on commons. If I´m right, this is no more possible and pictures will be automatically deleted after time for re-moving them to individual Wiki. Please, read paragraph "Licence". You don´t need to mark every picture from Category:Ubisoft images ;-)
Btw, make your talk page shorter, please. It´s hard to edit it. --El Carlos (talk) 11:01, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
Sound recordings[edit]
Hi! Regarding our discussion at the Village Pump in January, I've made a proposal here to add a section for US sound recordings to the licensing policy. Any input on the proposal would be welcome. Regards, Jafeluv (talk) 02:11, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Stop insulting me[edit]
If you once more insult me [5] I will take action. And I would appreciate if you would at least try to understand what I'm doing or if you don't understand to ask me. Your behaviour is amongst other things extremely annoying. Cheers --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 16:37, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
- How would you call somebody that get's a message on his talkpage about an edit and than instead of answering just redoes the edit? --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 22:21, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
- I haven't had to get a page protected because of me yet. You have. So I call that person you. -Nard the Bard 01:40, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
I have explained what I'm doing on more than one talk page. I can't find any explanation from you though.
So tell me why do I want to delete the redirect? --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 06:47, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
