Wikimedia blog interview edit

Hi Richard,

My name is Donna Peterson, and I'm a communications volunteer with the Wikimedia Foundation in San Francisco. We have a feature on the Wikimedia blog [1] to profile the photographers behind the beautiful photos that become Picture of the Day (POTD) on Wikimedia Commons. You can see some of our past POTD posts here: https://blog.wikimedia.org/c/communications/picture-of-the-day/

Given that two of your photos, Lighthouse Malarrif at Snæfellsnes peninsula and Austernfischer Haematopus ostralegus Iceland RB, were selected as POTD's this month, we'd love to do a short interview with you by email to discuss your photography and your POTD. Please let me know if you would be interested! You can email me at dpeterson wikimedia.org or respond on my talk page.

Invitation to take part in the categorization of QI edit

Dear Richard Bartz! Your images were reviewed and have been promoted to Quality Image status. Congratulations! I invite you to take part in the categorization of recently promoted quality images. All new images with this status automatically placed to the page Commons:Quality_images/Recently_promoted. They have to be manually tagged with relevant categories using the QI categorization tool (see link at the top of the page, the author of this tool is User:Dschwen). Very few users do this job now, so a large number of uncategorizated photos time to time accumulates on this page... --Bff (talk) 07:35, 10 October 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Grand Canyon - Nachfrage edit

Hallo Richard!

Ich verwende meistens "echte" HDRIs (also 32 Bit TIFFs) in Lightroom.
--Tuxyso (talk) 22:35, 7 November 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Review of Capture One edit

Hello Richard.
Very great pictures and thanks for sharing them here!
I see you're using Capture One. On my side I'm using DxO Optics Pro and I'm pleased with its job but I'm missing the ability to use masks like in C1 to control sometimes specific areas. Are you satisfied with this software? Is it able to correct 35 mm captors problems like (or at least: almost as good as) DxO (sharpness, geometry, noise, each specific to lens/camera couple)? Did you try that one? I'm asking you that because I'm looking for a more powerful alternative to DxO, but at least as good for lens corrections before transforming the photos in tiff.
Greetings. Sting (talk) 23:08, 6 December 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey, I'am doing only little editings, so C1 works very well for me. The Schneider Kreuznach Lenses have nearly no distortion, so I have a preset for converting all my pictures automatically to TIFF. For lens correction, do you ever tried PTLens? Regards   • Richard • [®] • 23:22, 6 December 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No, I didn't try PTLens and I don't think I need it: DxO makes a very good work on lens problems corrections. DxO is great for this but I'm missing the ability to make sometimes harsher edits on raw files on specific areas like C1 can do with masks.
I'm trying to “straighten” my workflow: Media Pro + Raw converter (as complete as possible) + Photoshop for the last tweaks.
That's why I'm asking you if C1 is able to handle the complete middle part: correcting at least “almost as good as DxO” the lens problems and (the following part I know it can) improve the raw file by area (contrast, color, etc.).
I recently “discovered” that Photoshop's integrated Camera Raw, used on treated DxO dng's allowed more flexibility but still not on specific areas, but that's better. Still looking for the best (quality) and most integrated solution for Raw conversion. Lightroom (don't know much about) doesn't seem to fit my needs.
Btw, other question: I saw you were now using CC. Is there a great difference between Photoshop CS6 and CC? Because I didn't find a clear answer on Adobe's site on that point. Sting (talk) 00:54, 7 December 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I found a review for ps 6 vs ps cc [2]   • Richard • [®] • 01:09, 7 December 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thnaks for that. Will look at it in depth tomorrow (too late now). Sting (talk) 01:19, 7 December 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement edit

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open! edit

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Thanks,

Dear Richard Bartz,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before.

--D-Kuru (talk) 20:05, 6 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Schau doch bitte einfach hier mal vorbei: Focus Stacking.
--D-Kuru (talk) 12:46, 9 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 startet in Kürze edit

Hallo Richard Bartz,

Dotterweber Vitelline Masked Weaver edit

Dear Richard,

Recently back from a birding trip through The Gambia, I wanted to complete the article about the Vitelline Masked Weaver. The picture you uploaded is from a weaver species with complete dark head and dark eyes, while the viteline masked weaver has a yellow eye and yellow to orange crown. So I suppose you mixed up the with the black-headed weaver (ploceus melanocephalus) website HBW I hope you agree with me this is correct. Friendly greeting, Henrik de Nie. --HWN 08:42, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Der WLM-Countdown hat begonnen edit

Hallo Richard Bartz,
