Noise[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your feedback on my images in the featured nominations page. I am just a newbie at photography, and my forte is more of editing photographs, photomontage etc, but, that said, I would dearly love to improve my actual photography skills. I notice you seem to pick up noise in images very well, and wondered if you can give any pointers on how to reduce it, either while taking the photographs, or post production.

any advice will be gratefully received.

Thanks

Julielangford (talk) 18:59, 31 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, I only know that you could reduce the noise with Canon software if the images were taken in a raw format. I've never done it myself. If you want me to I could try to reduce the noise on your image using my Adobe photoshop. Then you might see the difference.--Two+two=4 (talk) 19:28, 31 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for your response. I did some reading about the subject and I have now added my own noise reduced version [did in Photoshop]. I was quite amazed to see the difference when zoomed into 100%, and would not have known about the problems without your feedback, so Thank you very much for your critique, it has proved so valuable to me, and something I shall always keep in mind with all my images in the future. Hello, Two+two=4!
Tip: Add categories to your images
Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Golden Gate FP nomonation[edit]

Hi two+two=4, I´ve changed my vote to neutral. I believe your arguments but anyway I´m not 100% happy with the picture. Sorry! I really like it but for FP I miss this little extra... I dont mean wow, btw I really hate the argument "no wow"! I hope you are not annoyed with my vote and maybe you get this FP even without my promotion! Best regards Leviathan (talk) 06:08, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Leviathan, I am not annoyed with your vote at all. I would like to thank you for your comment about the line in the water. It helped me to improve the quality of the image. I've nominated the image mostly because of the fog. Ever since I first saw Golden Gate Bridge gently popping up from the fog I could not have gotten enough from the phenomenon. I love San Francisco's fog! Thanks for changing your vote!--Two+two=4 (talk) 14:10, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I've just seen that your image get the FP promotion! Congratulations for that! Just by the way... Best regards Leviathan (talk) 09:59, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Error in boats[edit]

Hi Two+two=4. It's between 8747 and 8783. See how line of the the water is broken. It's easy to fix by using clone tool. I could do that, but when I change pictures of others I should save them as a different file. And this would be really minor edit, so there's no need for two different files. --Lošmi (talk) 03:18, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No problem for removing my comment. It would be pointless without the picture. But I don't see any change in fixing that stitching error. Seems like you've uploaded the old version. --Lošmi (talk) 10:43, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I added a note. --Lošmi (talk) 11:51, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
OK. I've uploaded version with fixed error. If you tell me that you don't see the difference I give up :) --Lošmi (talk) 13:44, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ha ha. You're welcome. --Lošmi (talk) 14:14, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, the horizon looks much better now, but as you said, there are some stitching errors that should be fixed. And also, there are two cloned boats — one should be eliminated. Let me know how it goes. --Lošmi (talk) 12:35, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Added. --Lošmi (talk) 13:58, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Background[edit]

Hi Two+two=4. Yes there is a way. But I don't quite understand your question. Do you want me to explain you how to do it, or you ask me if I can remove it? --Lošmi (talk) 19:09, 29 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, that depends on many things. I don't know. I could try to see how it goes. If that doesn't requires too much time I'll fix it. --Lošmi (talk) 17:39, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

On a more serious note...[edit]

You gave me a riddle instead of giving a clear reply because you felt my question was a bit intruding and strange in the middle of a nomination. The nomination was an occasion for me to ask, not because I am nosey and intruding, but because it is a relevant question.

The reason is that in case the person who operates the new account Two+two=4 is identical to the person who operated mbz1 this should be stated on the two user pages. I tried to ask that question in a manner which was not supposed to cause special attention, and what I initially perceived as a clear "not the same person" statement is not instead replaced by a Sherlock Holmes quiz. Therefore I have to ask again because the kinds of subjects and photography presented by you and mila are very similar (except that I do not recall having seen panoramas from mila), you use the same camera model, and you have stated that you know her. In case that the two accounts are operated by two different persons, I am not interested in hearing or knowing anything about what kind of relation you may have to mila - it is none of my business. Nor is it needed for me or the community to know if you own your own camera or has borrowed one (when I asked the camera question I explicitly stated you did not have to address that question).

On Commons we notable examples of users, who has stopped using one account and started again using another account name, most well known is I guess Makro Freak (inactive account) who changed to Richard Bartz, and we also have examples of users who publicly mention that they share IP-addresses and have a special relation with another Commons user. For instance we have the married couple Lar and Josette, and we have Benh and Sanchezn who not so long ago shared the same IP address while both being active on FPC with quite similar subjects.

Therefore I would like to ask this specific yes-no question: Is the person who operated mbz1 identical to the person who operates Two+two=4?

If the answer is no, nothing needs to be done, if it is yes, you have to mention this on the two user pages - because the inactive account has a block history. -- Slaunger (talk) 19:00, 30 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Two+two=4, I am sorry to see that you are ignoring my relevant question. :-( In case you have not noticed already, I have replied to Abigors comment (and now also Maedins comment) on my talk page.) This is not some intrusive game I am playing, it is a sincere and important question. --Slaunger (talk) 20:42, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, I am mbz1.I answered your question only because I would not like the kind people here on Commons to have any problems because of my conduct, and it is them (these kind people), who I would like to ask to forgive me, if they could.
Yes, I wanted to have a fresh start. Is there anything wrong with that? You wrote :"Lots of things I have explained about would not have had to be said". May I please ask you what do you mean? What things are you talking about? You would not show my stitching errors to me, if you knew who I was, but I really could not see them!maedin writes "The issue with this situation is that Two+two=4 may be operating under false pretense, and, in my view, deceiving all those at FPC who treated her as a new user." I wonder how differently I would have been threaded, if she knew I was Mbz1? Would have she supported all of my nominations ? It is precisely why I wanted to have a fresh start - to be threaded es everybody else and not as Mbz1 and not because of my blocklog! What is wrong with uploading high resolution free images? I've never done anything special to hide my true identity. I used the same camera, the same PS, I took images of the same subjects. I even uploaded one-two images taken with my underwater Olympus. Sherlock Holmeses missed on them. BTW why don't you like my mention of Sherlock Holmes so much? It was only a joke. I tried to be funny you know. Is anything wrong with that too? I knew that people, who know Mbz1 would understand, who I am, but I hoped they will pretend they did not for my sake, to help me out of my depression, the depression that is killing me. I was mistaking. I hoped for some kindness and understanding. I was mistaking it was not for me. And what is blocklog IYO, slaunger. Is it a Judenstern that should be put on my talk user page for everybody to see? Is that what you want? BLOCKLOG1 + BLOCKLOG2 + BLOCKLOG3--2+2=4 (talk) 22:04, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hurray! You're back! You have been missed (by me at least)! I am sorry you see my requests for getting it out in the open is perceived as an unkind by you. I perceived it as much less dramatic that you brought it up yourself instead of the inevitable alternative, that someone would sooner or later pull out a much more intrusive tool. I do wish for you a fresh start, and I think it is a good symbolic way of doing that to use a new account. And actually, I would also like to give you some credit on vastly improved and much more user interaction on your new account (there are certain thing about the very post preceeding this I could have lived without, such as the Judenstar remark, which I think is out of line). However, you really cannot completely shake of your history like that. It is much less dramatic to get it out in the open while your new account is still relatively new. I do not see any reason for adding links to your block history here or on your user page. A simple link to your previous account would suffice, I would say. I did not apreciate your Sherlock Holmes quiz because I did not find it funny at all. I perceived it as if you were ignoring the sincerity in my request for a clarification and that my objective was to spare you for even greater distress. The resources used has noting to do with the stitching, but more other stuff I have been writing about, like pics from Greenland (which you know very well already) and a feeling of deceit I have had thinking about a new user, while writing, when it was, in fact, a well known user with whom I have interacted a great many times. --Slaunger (talk) 22:35, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So you did not like my Judenstar remark? Well, it is not excatly my own remark (I am not so smart I am afraid). I took the idea from Tony Wills, who wrote "I can certainly understand people removing templates, which get spammed too readily on peoples pages. Their removal of them is at least an acknowledgement that they have seen them. Should one be relying on seeing other templates on a persons page as a marker of whether they have 'offended' in the same way before? Just as 'blocking is not a punishment' posting messages on a persons talk page is notification to them, not a 'star of David' pinned to them to warn others." here (Sorry, Tony, if you did not want me to mention this). I am sorry, Tony, and I am sorry, user Simplicius, for bringing back up your old problems, please do forgive me for doing this to you. Do you really believe I could have a fresh start, slaunger, do you really believe in that? May I please wish you a good night? Yes, I do believe you could have a fresh start with a simple link back to your old user page, but you are very fast undermining your possibility to do so, which saddens me to see. Yes, I will sleep well, as it is late and I am tired. --Slaunger (talk) 23:34, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I just would like to stress out one more time that I answered slaunger's question not because I was afraid of CU. It would have probably been denied anyway, and even if it was not, who cares? My only reason for answering slunger's questions was and is to protect kind PEOPLE, who were trying to help me out and who knew nothing about my dirty secret of hiding my real identity together with my blocklog. BLOCKLOG1 + BLOCKLOG2 + BLOCKLOG3 --2+2=4 that is a sock of [[:user:Mbz1]] (talk) 00:06, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@slaunger. I wonder, if you have ever read check user policy before you posted the link to my talk page. Here it is: "Valid reasons for running a check include vandalism where a block of the underlying IP or IP range is needed, disruptive sockpuppetry, vote-stacking, and similar disruption where the technical evidence from running a check would prevent or reduce further disruption to Wikimedia projects." Do you see any reason whatsoever to run CU on me according to the above, slaunger? No reasonable chechuser would have agreed to do it on me, there was no reason whatsoever, as it was already said to you by three uninvolved admins. Only somebody as maedin and/or lycaon could have ever thougt about even requesting CU. Yet you came to my talk page and presented your conduct as your only goal was to help me to avoid CU. Maybe, I should assume a good faith shouldn't I? But whatever your intentions were what you've done to me was wrong, slaunger. In this very post you write: "Nor is it needed for me or the community to know if you own your own camera or has borrowed one (when I asked the camera question I explicitly stated you did not have to address that question)." You've never explicitly stated that I did not have to address that question about camera, slaunger, never! About your statement that you spent more time on me because you thought I was a new user. Sure you did, you linked me to two of your FPs panorama and then you have a nerve to talk about this! All my questions here are just rhetorical questions which means I need no answer or rather I am not interested in your answers, and besides I want take no more of your time than I already have. You've destroyed me, slaunger, and at this point, when you've got what you wanted, I will ask you never again to show up on my talk page.Thanks.BLOCKLOG1 + BLOCKLOG2 + BLOCKLOG3 --[[--2+2=4 that is a sock of [[:user:Mbz1]] (talk) 02:14, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • @everybody. When I left this message at my old talk page I really did not know that I would be able to come back. Not only my username, but my IP was blocked by my own request, and it is blocked now. Few weeks later my husband told me that our IP address is changing dynamicly. We looked it up and sure enough it was a very different one. As a matter of fact it was so different that it was allocated to a different city which is 50 miles from where we live, now it has changed again to another different city which is about 30 miles from my home. So as you could see even if CU would have been ever performed it could have been negative, or maybe not. I am not sure how it works. My husband was the one, who opened the account (I would have never came up with such a username ). He even uploaded few images from his Nikon and voted few times on FP. Then he got bored, while I missed Commons so much that I could not resist coming back and starting a new life. I believed I was punished enough already. After all I could not use my own name on my images. All I wanted to do was to upload my images, to take a part in FP and QI process, and completely ignore the people, who were not friendly to me, just to have a fresh start. Have I done something wrong? BTW @any admin, may I please ask you to unblock IP 69.181.3.156. It does not belong to me anymore (I give the permission to permom CU on me and make sure that it is really the case), I just think that, if somebody with this IP would ever wish to create account on Commons, it better be available.BLOCKLOG1 + BLOCKLOG2 + BLOCKLOG3 --[[--2+2=4 that is a sock of [[:user:Mbz1]]--2+2=4 that is a sock of [[:user:Mbz1]] (talk) 03:10, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Few Comments[edit]

I have decided to make a few comments here versus making them on administrator noticeboard. I believe this way my comments will cause less disruption :)

Me[edit]

No doubt I am a troubled editor, the editor, who made way too many mistakes, the editor, who took lots of other editors time, the editor who is hard to work with because of my emotions and so on, and so on, and so on.... In some way I could be called a special need editor, if you want. But you know what, I'd rather make mistakes and be as emotional as I am. IMO it is much, much better than to be heartless, merciless, humorless, soulless robots, who always do, no, not even what is right to do, but what in their sick minds is right to do, even if it means deliberately and methodically hunt people down. Before I asked to be blocked I found myself in a situation that I needed some help to resolve. I asked one admin for that help. He/she promised to respond my email, and he/she never did. Later I was told that he/she gets many emails and he/she simply forgot about me. And I... I waited for that email as one would have waited for a light in the kingdom of darkness. It never came. I was so upset and so alone that I asked to be blocked. Silly? It probably was.

My prior blocks[edit]

Except two blocks that I requested myself and the one I will talk below, all other blocks were imposed during my fight against racist, antisemitic images that are flooding Commons. Were the administrators, who imposed those blocks right? Of course they were. Am I sorry for what I have done to deserve them? No, I am not. I stopped my fight not because of the blocks, but because there was no use and because every time it only brought a new and unwanted attention to the issue. One of the blocks was imposed by lycaon and it was a retaliation. It was lifted few hours later. Although lycaon complained about this on AN/U, the block was never reinforced.

Have I done something wrong, when I started using my husband's account?[edit]

I asked one admin to answer that very question and was told that me using a new account was rising eyebrows, but it does not mean I have done something wrong. My take on it, I have done nothing wrong. I was trying to get a fresh start, and not because of my blocks record, but because I wanted to avoid being harassed.

What to do with me now?[edit]

Please do as you wish.Never again I will ask to be blocked myself.

--Mbz1 (talk) 13:18, 3 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Persons shouldn't share an account. One account, one person. That said, welcome back. Kanonkas // talk // e-mail // 16:43, 3 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks, Kanonkas.I used this account only because I wanted avoid harassment while my other account was blocked. Now, when my other account is unblocked, of course I will be using only one account (the old one). If 2+2=4 is blocked as a sock (as I believe it should be now) I will add the block to my block archive here. One more, one less who cares? --Mbz1 (talk) 23:16, 3 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Welcome stranger[edit]

Welcome back stranger :-). Good to see you are still active with the camera and have broadened your scope. Pity about the controversy over the new incarnation, the fresh start was good to see. But I expect it was inevitable that someone would draw connections sooner or later, it is difficult to change ones modus operandi, and disguise such talent :-). --Tony Wills (talk) 21:22, 6 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Oh Tony, I knew the people, who know me, will guess sooner or later who 2+2=4 is. I hoped they would see no problem with that and keep it to themselves. I did not really try to hide, did I? I used the same cameras (Canon and Olympus), the same PS and I was taking images of the very same subjects. Tony, it is very important for me that you know, when I asked to be blocked, I did not have a plan to come back under a new user name, not at all. I asked for a total block including blocking user name, IP, emails and ability to edit my own user pages. At that moment I did not know my IP is changing constantly by itself. Anyway to make a long story short my husband opened an account. I bet he did it for me because he saw how depressed I was without Commons. Few days later I could resist going back to Commons no more. It is also important for me that you know I've done what I've done not to get rid of my blocks record. Tony, I know I made too many mistakes here on Commons, but, when next time I feel bad about something, I will remember your messages and your kindness and let it go rather than to respond as I am afraid you well aware, I could sometimes. Thank you for everything! --Mbz1 (talk) 01:17, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
After seeing your re-incarnation, I considered whether I should start a campaign to allow people to have a fresh start (like a witness protection program where one starts over with a new identity somewhere else). But I quickly decided it was a non-starter because even if one starts over, you are not starting over in a new community - it would be more like going to live in your home town but wearing a disguise: Not very likely to work in the long run. I do not think you need to hide from your past incarnation as mbz1, but if you were to openly continue instead under the guise of two+two=4 it makes a statement that you want to have a fresh start, and that you want to divorce yourself from the pain encountered before. Maybe others will join in the spirit and embrace a fresh start :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 06:35, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
When I asked for a total block on Commons and on English Wikipedia, I was not thinking about a fresh start. I was only thinking how to keep myself off Commons. So I deleted Huib email from my mail box, and removed him/her from my contacts, to make it harder for me to be able to email him/her and to ask to be unblocked. Then few days later I believed that the Windows on our computer could not start. Now thinking back I know I did not give them a chance to start.I should have waited just a few seconds more, but instead I did a full system restore. I formatted our hard drive with few months load of my pictures, some of which were very unique and irreplaceable and were not backed up, (It was good my husband had his images on CDs). I deleted my husband's and mine software, our songs, our tax return :). All was gone. Why did I do it? Of course the official reason I presented to my husband was that I could not start the Windows, but maybe I did it to delete my pictures that I had nothing more to upload to Commons? Of course I was taking no new images at that time, I was not even going out at all. Then my husband knew it was getting dangerous. Few days later he told me he wanted to open an account on Commons. I told him that he could not because I am blocked. He said: "You're blocked, not me." Then I explained to him that our IP is blocked and... You know the rest of the story. So, my so called fresh start was not done in purpose, but rather by an accident. Well, maybe an accident is not the right word to use, but it was just a chain of events that lead to rather not indented result. Please believe me I thought to myself, if I with my block history, have a right for a fresh start. I know block history is important for admins. If a user deserves to get blocked the prior block record should be taken into account to decide what should be the length of a new block. Yet I was sure that 2+2=4 would do nothing to get blocked. So after discussing the issue with myself I decided it was OK. I even thought that in a few months of a good behavior I will admit who I was. Remember I did not use my real name on the images I uploaded and I wanted to use it. Please do forgive me hard to understand messages. It is 3:40 a.m. now. I guess I'll try to get some sleep now :) Thank you!--Mbz1 (talk) 10:44, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

p.s. You are absolutely right to say "if one starts over, you are not starting over in a new community - it would be more like going to live in your home town but wearing a disguise", and I was going to discole my identity sooner rather than later, but it was only a month since I came back, and I was soooo unready. I guess I also have to admit that I have proved many times already that I am often overreacting. I will try to work on this my problem.--Mbz1 (talk) 15:19, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sorry I'm a little slow at replying, I am still cataloging my old photos (up to 19023 so far, perhaps I should upload some here ... :-). I think each time you return you are actually a little bit stronger. You have been pulled from your chrysalis before you were quite ready, a painful rebirth. Does a butterfly remember its previous life as a caterpillar? :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 12:43, 8 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you, Tony. You're always find the right words, and each time I return you have something nice to present me with. Last time I returned from self requested block you nominated my egret for FP, and now you gave this beautiful barnstar to both of my accounts! And all the times I come back I feel your radiating kindness. Thank you for everything! (and yes, I believe you should upload some of your images here)--Mbz1 (talk) 16:02, 8 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
